Grants to Schools Program
Since it’s inception in 1991, the Lawton Public School Foundation has awarded over $200,000 to our schools and has funded 400 grants through the “Grants to School Program.” Every year we strive to increase our funding through an annual breakfast held each fall. This combined with the LPS employee dollar payroll deductions, community business sponsors and memorial contributions help provide our funding. The grants are selected by a committee of community members with interest in our public education. They select the best applicants based on these criteria:
- Originality and creativity
- Type of student population
- Overall use of material (for example student rewards and field trips are seldom funded)
All financial contributions received by the Lawton Public School Foundation are deposited into the endowment fund. Interest earned from this investment is primarily used to fund the Grants for Teachers program. Lawton Public School teachers complete a Grants for Teachers application form which allows the teachers to provide an overview of how funds will be used in the classroom. The Lawton Public School Foundation Grant Review Committee meets annually to review all grant requests and award grants based on pre-determined qualification criteria.
