Each school year Lawton High School has an average of 12 yearbook staff members that work tirelessly to produce our yearbook. They begin the previous school year and work through until the very real world deadline in mid March to create a 249 page yearbook. Then it is sent off to print. The book is composed of the written word found in descriptive body copies, headlines, subheadlines, captions, and quotes. Most importantly, the book contains pictures that have captured the memories of the school year.

Although the staff dedicate themselves to documenting history, writing interesting stories, and getting the good quotes they are very aware that almost everyone who purchases or sees the yearbooks rushes past the words to the photographs.

We believe the photographs are the part of the yearbook that students, faculty, staff and parents look forward to the most. It is for this reason that the staff try their hardest to capture the best photographs possible, which is not always easy, and often frustrating when you do have the best tools.

We have discovered that the quality of the images is directly related to the quality of the cameras and lenses. It is for this reason we requested three Canon R series cameras and one Canon RF 20-700mm F2.8 lens. The cameras have the newest technology incorporated and replace two of our older cameras that no longer work. The lens is fabulous as it has the ability to take photographs at a higher speed and provide increased clarity, which enhances the ability to capture better sports pictures. The Lawton Public Schools Foundation through a grant made it possible for us to purchase one of these lenses last school year. Students always rush when they are assigned to a sporting event to be the lucky student that is able to use the “good” lens. My staff is very excited that there will now be another “great” lens in their arsenal as they endeavor to capture the best photographs possible.
