I am deeply grateful to the LPS Foundation and its generous donors for the $651.08 grant that supported the implementation of Soft Start STEAM Bins in my classroom. This funding has made a meaningful and lasting impact on my students’ daily learning experience and overall well-being.

The resources purchased through this grant were used to create Soft Start STEAM Bins, which are hands-on, thoughtfully designed learning activities that students engage with during the first part of the school day. A “soft start” morning routine allows students to ease into the school day through calm, purposeful exploration rather than immediately transitioning into structured academic instruction. Each STEAM bin incorporates elements of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics and encourages problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

This type of morning routine is especially important for young learners. Many students arrive at school carrying the weight of a busy or stressful morning, feeling tired, rushed, or emotionally unsettled. Soft Start STEAM Bins provide a welcoming and low-pressure entry into the school day, helping students regulate their emotions, focus their attention, and feel successful right away. As students engage with the materials, their minds become active and ready for learning in a calm and enjoyable way.

The impact of this grant on my educational program has been significant. Students are challenged to think in new and different ways, strengthening their problem-solving skills while building confidence and independence. The soft start routine sets a positive tone for the entire day, leading to increased engagement, smoother transitions, and a more focused learning environment. Most importantly, it supports the whole child by addressing both academic readiness and emotional well-being.

Because of the generosity of the LPS Foundation and its donors, my students begin each day feeling supported, curious, and prepared to learn. This grant has not only enhanced my classroom resources but has also enriched the daily educational experience of every student I serve.
