As the Lawton Public School Foundation board starts another year with a great deal of momentum behind them, there could not be a better time to thank each and every supporter! With your support we have made a tremendous difference in the lives of many students throughout LPS. What a wonderful journey the foundation has been on lately! In just the last few months the Lawton Public School Foundation has approved investing over $180,000 in our schools!
The Lawton Public School Foundation recently held their first board meeting of the year, and welcomed new board members, Dr. Jennifer Dennis and Mr. Howard Johnson. The board decided to hold their meetings this year at various schools throughout the district, and Tomlinson Middle School was their first stop. Principal Mr. Williams, librarian Kris Byrd, and two teachers, Mrs. Alexander and Mrs. Perez, were on hand to welcome them to TMS. The highlight of the meeting was hearing Mrs. Alexander and Mrs. Perez describe the grants they recently received from the foundation. Mrs. Perez described the excitement in her students’ eyes when they walked in to a classroom with new technology funded through a grant provided by LPSF. And, Mrs. Alexander enthusiastically described how the grant she recently received from LPSF will fund a field trip for her students to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Mrs. Alexander is a Science teacher at TMS, and the grant she received titled “Prairie vs. Forest Plants” will enable her students to gain “hand‘s-on” learning experiences. She said this is an opportunity for some of her students that they would have never had without this grant because they just don’t have the opportunities some kids have. Mrs. Alexander went on to say, “From my heart, I want to thank you for learning from your families and parents the importance of giving back and passing it on. You are giving back. You are making a difference to my students.”
