PROPOSAL INFORMATION
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Program Objectives
Objective 1: Expand access to digital fashion design technology.
Purchase computers capable of running Clo3D software so that students can develop digital garments, create virtual prototypes, and build skills in 3D fashion design and visualization. The program will provide students with hands-on experience using digital tools that complement traditional patternmaking and garment-construction techniques.
Objective 2: Increase apparel production capacity.
Purchase new fabric cutting tables, serger machines, and coverstitch machines to improve the program’s ability to provide hands-on garment construction experiences. The additional equipment will increase student access to specialized machinery and allow students to develop proficiency with equipment commonly used in professional apparel production.
Objective 3: Restore and expand computerized embroidery instruction.
Purchase embroidery software necessary to repair and operate the program’s existing embroidery machines, and purchase new hoops. This investment will allow students to incorporate computerized embroidery, embellishment, and surface design into their projects while gaining experience with technology used in the fashion and apparel industry.
Objective 4: Strengthen the program’s complete design-to-production process.
Use the requested equipment and technology to enhance the existing fashion design program from initial concept and digital development through pattern preparation, fabric cutting, garment construction, embroidery, and finished-product presentation.
Objective 5: Improve student career and postsecondary readiness.
Provide students with increased opportunities to develop technical skills using current fashion design and apparel-production technologies, strengthening their portfolios and preparing them for continued education, industry certifications, employment, and entrepreneurship in fashion and related creative fields.
PLEASE DESCRIBE HOW YOU WILL DETERMINE IF THE PROJECT OBJECTIVES ARE ACHIEVED SUCCESSFULLY:
The success of this project will be measured through a combination of student participation, equipment utilization, completed projects, skill development, and student outcomes.
- Equipment access and utilization: Track the number of students who use the new computers, cutting tables, sergers, coverstitch machines, and embroidery equipment throughout the grant period. The program will monitor equipment usage to ensure that the new resources are being integrated into regular classroom instruction and are accessible to students.
- Student skill development: Assess students’ ability to use industry-relevant equipment and technology through instructor observations, skills assessments, project rubrics, and completed assignments. Students will demonstrate proficiency in areas such as CLO 3D design, fabric cutting, serging, coverstitch construction, and computerized embroidery.
- Student projects and portfolios: Measure the number of garments, digital designs, embroidered pieces, and other completed projects produced using the new equipment. Student portfolios will be reviewed to document growth in technical skills, creativity, design development, and overall quality of work.
- Increased production capacity: Compare the number and scope of student projects completed before and after the new equipment is added. Increased access to specialized equipment should allow more students to work independently and complete more advanced projects within the available instructional time.
- Student engagement and participation: Monitor student participation in design projects, fashion shows, exhibitions, competitions, and other program activities. Increased access to reliable equipment and technology is expected to create additional opportunities for students to develop and showcase their work.
- Career and postsecondary readiness: Track student participation in work-based learning, internships, fashion-related competitions, postsecondary programs, and employment or entrepreneurial opportunities when applicable. Student surveys can also be used to measure their confidence and preparedness in using industry-standard fashion technology.
At the end of the grant period, the program will review these measures to determine whether the investment increased student access to equipment, improved technical skills, expanded the scope and quality of student work, and strengthened preparation for postsecondary education and careers in fashion and related fields.
PROVIDE A SCHEDULE FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF YOUR PROPOSED PROJECT:
Grant Implementation Schedule
Month 1 – August/September Finalize equipment and software selections, obtain quotes, complete purchasing, and place orders. Prepare classroom spaces for new equipment and technology.
Month 2 – September/October Receive and install computers, cutting tables, sergers, coverstitch machines, and embroidery software. Configure CLO 3D computers and test embroidery equipment and software.
Month 3 – October/November Provide instructor training and professional development as needed. Introduce students to the new equipment and technology, including CLO 3D, specialized sewing equipment, and computerized embroidery.
Month 4 – November/December Integrate the new equipment into regular classroom instruction. Students begin using the technology and equipment in design and garment-construction projects.
Month 5 – January Continue hands-on instruction and monitor student use of the new equipment. Students apply new skills to increasingly complex design and production projects.
Month 6 – February Evaluate student skill development through projects, instructor observations, and skills assessments. Identify areas where additional instruction or support may be needed.
Month 7 – March Continue student projects and portfolio development. Incorporate CLO 3D, embroidery, serging, and coverstitch techniques into appropriate design assignments.
Month 8 – April Document student accomplishments, completed projects, and use of grant-funded equipment. Gather student and instructor feedback regarding the impact of the new resources.
Month 9 – May Conduct a final evaluation of the project. Measure student participation, equipment usage, skill development, completed projects, and progress toward grant objectives. Compile results and prepare the final grant report.
