PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Edison Elementary is seeking funding to establish the Super Hawks Military Family Connection Program, a school-based initiative designed to support military-connected students and their families.
Military children experience unique circumstances, including frequent moves, parent deployments or extended absences, changing schools, and transitions within their family. The Super Hawks Military Family Connection Program will provide students and families with opportunities to build relationships, develop a sense of belonging, and connect with others who understand the military lifestyle.
Because Edison Elementary is an off-base school, military-connected families may not always have the same opportunities to naturally connect with one another as families attending schools located on or immediately surrounding a military installation. This program will intentionally create that community within our school.
PLEASE DESCRIBE HOW YOU WILL DETERMINE IF THE PROJECT OBJECTIVES ARE ACHIEVED SUCCESSFULLY:
The success of the Super Hawks Military Family Connection Program will be measured through student and family participation, event attendance, and feedback from participating families. Sign-in sheets will be used at each event to track participation and determine whether involvement increases throughout the school year.
Students and families will also be given brief surveys to share whether the program helped them feel more connected, supported, and welcomed within the Edison Elementary community. We will also track the number of military-connected families participating in the program and the number of military and community partnerships established.
At the end of the school year, program leaders will review participation data, family feedback, and overall engagement to identify successes and areas for improvement. The goal is to demonstrate that the program has created meaningful opportunities for military-connected students and families to build relationships and strengthen their sense of belonging at Edison Elementary.
PROVIDE A SCHEDULE FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF YOUR PROPOSED PROJECT:
September 2026 – Program Kickoff & Family Connection Event
Launch the Super Hawks Military Family Connection Program with a welcome event for military-connected students and families. Families will have an opportunity to meet one another, enjoy refreshments and activities, and learn about the program.
November 2026 – Military Family Thanksgiving Gathering
Host a Thanksgiving-style meal for military-connected students and their families. The gathering will provide a welcoming space for families to share a meal, build relationships, and celebrate together, particularly recognizing that military families may be separated from extended family during the holidays. A military or community guest speaker may also be invited to participate.
February 2027 – Friendship & Resilience Event
Provide an interactive event focused on building friendships, resilience, and connections among military-connected students and families. Activities will encourage students to connect with peers who share similar experiences.
April 2027 – Month of the Military Child Celebration
Host the program's largest event in recognition of the Month of the Military Child. The celebration will include a family BBQ, games and activities, student recognition, appreciation gifts, and participation from military and community partners.
May 2027 – Program Evaluation & Planning
Review attendance, student and family feedback, and community participation to evaluate the program's first-year success and identify opportunities for continued growth.
