This grant allowed me to bring a hands-on, real-world science experience directly into my classroom by purchasing an egg incubator and the supplies needed to safely care for newly hatched chicks. The incubator automatically controls temperature and humidity, creating the perfect environment for eggs to develop, while the brooder box, heat source, food, water dispensers, and bedding ensure the chicks are safe and comfortable after hatching. For many of my students, this is their first opportunity to witness the life cycle of an animal up close. Instead of only reading about growth and development in a textbook, they were able to observe it happening in real time, while watching eggs incubate, hatch, and grow into living animals they help care for. This experience makes learning more meaningful, memorable, and exciting.

Beyond science, this project encouraged responsibility, curiosity, and teamwork. My students had a part in daily care routines, make observations, asking questions, and engaging in discussions about biology, agriculture, and where food comes from (this one they did not like as much understanding that our chicks could one day become meals). It also helped build a deeper appreciation for living things and the effort involved in caring for them. This grant transforms a standard lesson into an unforgettable learning experience. It gave my students a chance to connect with science in a hands-on way, sparking interest and understanding that will stay with them far beyond the classroom.
