My name is Jasmine Metcalf, and I am a Pre-K teacher at New Horizons Learning Center. This is my second year teaching. I applied for a grant last year, and the items I received have been incredibly helpful in my classroom. Because of that positive experience, I decided to apply again this year for a light table.
My students absolutely love the light table and all of the manipulatives that came with it. In Pre-K, one of the most effective ways for students to learn is through hands-on experiences. Sensory play helps strengthen both gross and fine motor skills, which are essential at this stage of development.
I have several students who initially struggled with fine motor skills, and I have already seen improvement since adding the light table center to our daily learning routine. The table has also allowed us to practice important early math skills such as counting, sorting, and creating patterns.
Thank you to the LPS Foundation for supporting our classroom and helping expand our students’ learning experiences.
