I was awarded math manipulatives to make multiplication hands-on and meaningful for my students. With this grant, I purchased engaging items such as small ducks with blue plates to act as “pools,” farm animals with farm gates, fruit counters, and tin cupcake containers to help students create equal groups.

These materials allow students to physically build multiplication problems instead of just memorizing facts. For example, students can have 4 groups "pools" and place 3 ducks in each “pool” and count how many ducks there are in all. This represents the multiplication equation 4 X 3= 12. They can group fruit into cupcake tins to see how multiplication represents equal groups. By touching, moving, and organizing real objects, students are able to truly understand what multiplication means.

For many children, multiplication can feel abstract and confusing. These hands-on tools turn math into something they can see and experience. This not only increases engagement and excitement, but it also builds confidence — especially for students who struggle with traditional worksheets.
