Thank you so much for your generous donations to support reading stations in our school. Your contributions are already making a meaningful difference for my students.

As a special education teacher, I work with students who are on individualized education plans,many for reading disabilities. These students read below their grade level, but they still have the same interests, maturity, and curiosity as their peers. Because of your support, I was able to purchase “Hi/Low” literature—books with high-interest topics written at lower reading levels. This allows students to engage with stories that feel relevant and age-appropriate, while still meeting them where they are academically.

I also used the funds to create portable reading stations that can be used right in the general education classroom. This helps students stay included with their peers while still receiving the support they need.

Additionally, I purchased reading pens to include in each station. These tools allow students to independently access text by reading it aloud, helping them participate more fully in classroom activities. The pens also have translation features, which are especially helpful for our English language learners at Whittier. These students can use the pens to translate books and assignments, giving them greater access to both reading and learning.

Because of your generosity, students who often struggle with reading now have tools and materials that build confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging.
