2021 Crystal Pillar Awardees
At our Annual Pillar Appreciation Dinner, held at Eisenhower Middle School on October 26, we were proud to award four Crystal Pillar awards to members of our community.
What is a Crystal Pillar?
Recipients of the Crystal Pillar award are individuals and businesses that have made a monumental impact on the Lawton Public School Foundation. They are donors and volunteers who have dedicated significant time, resources, or expertise to support and empower our students and teachers. They are cheerleaders of the foundation and a friend to Lawton Public Schools—we are incredibly grateful for the impact their generosity has on our mission to enhance the learning experience in our community.
We presented this award to Tracie Davis, Denise Rooney, Classic Lawton Chevrolet, and Mike & Sandy Mayhall. Continue reading to learn more about their contributions to the community.
Tracie Davis
Tracie has a huge heart for helping those that are less fortunate. She does an amazing job not only providing additional support and encouragement, but also helping to level the playing field for students in our community. She is a very generous donor, and is willing to invest time into many projects throughout the year to ensure they are successful. Within the last few years, Tracie has awarded students who applied for Oklahoma Promise with new shoes, fully stocked a school store at Washington Elementary (where students can purchase things like laundry detergent, food, and new shoes with school money they earn for being on time, acting appropriately, and making academic progress), and provided a free pizza for every student participating in the LPS Summer Feeding Program. Tracie, the LPS Foundation appreciates you investing in our organization and the students in our community!
Mike & Sandy Mayhall
Both Mike and Sandy have served on our LPS Foundation board for several years, at different times. While they no longer have students in our district, they both continue to be donors, serve on committees, and encourage others in our community to support public education. Sandy is a current board member, and she’s quick to help with any job that needs doing, and has no problem asking individuals to be donors (even if she has to remind them she’s Mike’s wife!). Mike was instrumental in helping us to raise over $60,000 in our first annual golf tournament this year! Mike and Sandy, we appreciate your dedication to our organization, and the community!
Denise Rooney
When we were reviewing nominations for our Crystal Pillar award, the number one educator that came to mind is Denise, and we all agreed she deserved an award without hesitation! Denise is a single mom, she teaches at Freedom Elementary, and she drives a school bus! As most of us know, sometimes all it takes is a cheerleader to help others get excited about a project; and Denise does just that with her dedication and support of our Grants to Teachers program. When we ask our schools to help fill tables at events, Denise will fill three. When we ask them to sell 10 tickets, she’ll sell 40! Denise, we not only appreciate you for being a donor and a supporter, but for encouraging your staff and parents to support LPS Foundation as well. Thank you for everything you do.
Classic Lawton Chevrolet
If you’re involved in the Lawton Fort Sill community, it’s likely that you already know the Randles make Lawton a better place to live, and are some of the most generous people. Ervin and Bridget Randle serve on numerous boards, and proudly host many community events for nonprofits here in Lawton. LPS Foundation has been honored as one of the recipients of their annual golf tournament for the past three years – and the proceeds of this event have allowed us to purchase more than $25,000 worth of resources for students and teachers of Lawton Public Schools! Thank you for all that you do for the Foundation and our community, Classic Lawton Chevrolet!
