After a household accident last summer, I began to ponder whether or not our students were equipped with the tools and knowledge to handle emergency situations. I began to coordinate with our district career advisor and Comanche Memorial Hospital to host a first aid training. In November, the students received training in wound care, burns, hands-only CPR, and more from staff members of Comanche Memorial Hospital. Upon taking a quiz to demonstrate knowledge of basic first aid, students received the first aid kits I was able to purchase with the LPSF grant.
Because of this wonderful opportunity, we now have students interested in pursuing careers in the medical field. We have discussed how the lessons we learn in elementary school can be applied toward future goals.
