Materials

Science Department Donation

MacArthur High School’s science department received more than $4,000 for organs to dissect.

Screen Printing Kits for Art

With these screen printing kits a lot of the anxiety surrounding purchasing supplies for our art classes has been alleviated as we prepare for our first t-shirt fundraiser. Getting to use the screen printers has proven to not only fulfill that fundraising need, but has also been a lot of fun for my students to learn and use. As they have learned the process and seen the results, it has prompted more brainstorming for other things to make and sell to raise fund for art supplies. They are a great asset for our program and will get lots of use every year. We appreciate the Lawton Public School Foundation for providing this opportunity for our art program!

Centers

This grant has helped my student by giving them centers. Students learn through playing so thank so much.

Hands-On Reading and Activity Center

My students had asked me for a reading area since the beginning of the year. Until we received this grant we just had a small rug, a small bookshelf, and a few books. Since creating the reading center, my students are always asking to go read. Because reading center privileges are reserved for students with good behavior and have completed quality work, the students ensure they are on task and follow classroom procedures even better! There is never a time a student is in need of a book to read, we have three full bookshelves. Another extra benefit of our reading center is we are able to use it for an “emotional time-out’ area when a student feels overwhelmed, over-stimulated, or upset and wants a place to compose themselves. Thank you so much!

Irresistible Reads

Students LOVE to read the Mo Willems books. They are consistently checked out and the students tell their friends about the characters in books and what they are doing. These books have brought much joy to the students at Woodland Hills.

Novel Engineering

Novel Engineering has been such a wonderful bridge between the library and makerspace. Students have been actively listening and reading the stories so that they can identify problems. When we get to makerspace the following week, students are focused and know the task at hand. The students have worked well together and have enjoyed the overflow of library lessons into the makerspace. I have seen a real increase in their creativity. Students have especially enjoyed the originality encouraged with Novel Engineering.
