Hatching Chickens

My new students were very excited as the packages arrived for our grant. When the weather warms my PK classroom will be hatching baby chickens. I have attached pictures of our classroom looking at the purchases made with our grant. We received an incubator, brooder, books about a chickens life cycle and 21 eggs showing the development of the fetus through incubation.

My students are very excited and can’t wait until we start the project in April.

Thank you Lawton Public School Foundation!

Gaga for Gaga Ball!

This award provides the funds for our school to have an indoor Gaga Ball Pit for students of all ages to enjoy. The game itself helps build endurance, stamina and strength while practicing good sportsmanship and integrity. The students thoroughly enjoy this game and request it daily!

Garden Supplies/Chicken Coops

I teach Farm to Table at MacArthur Middle School. We received two smaller chicken coops that we will be using to start our purebred chicken lines and to raise our chicks that we will be hatching in class. Our pond insert we got will not only bring some beauty to our garden, but will also allow our ducks a place to swim. The 12 fruit trees and bushes we have will be planted next week. We have apple, peach, cherry, pear, apricot, and blackberry and blueberry bushes. Most of my students have never been to a farm or even grown any vegetables at home. With these items I will be able to teach my students a better understanding of life on a small farm. Having my students outside of the classroom and using their hands to achieve this goal is one of the best ways to educate any student. They have assisted me in building the coops, digging the hole for the pond insert, and will be digging the holes for the fruit trees and bushes that will be planted very soon. We spend most of our time outside and having these extra items has helped me to educate my students. Thank you again for all your support!

SELabrate Reading

My grant was to help me teach Social Emotional skills to my students. I lot of my student have lived through trauma, loss, disappointment at a very young age. Some of the things they have lived through I have not even experienced yet. A big majority of my students are hurting in decision making, social management skills, in relationships skills, and social awareness skills. This grant was designed to help me be successful in growing my students in these skills. It is already working. In these pictures I am sharing we read the book “After The Fall How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again”. In this story my students learned that accidents happen all the time, but its what happens after the accident that matters. What is our response to the accident or situation that just happened? As a class we reflected on what Humpty Dumpty did after his fall. He chose to face his fears and try again. I want my students to get back up again and try their best. This grant gave me the resources I needed to help my students be successful as a whole student.

Geometry hands on by doing Constructions.

I just received the last of my order for the Geometry compasses that LPS Foundation bought for the school children. We have not had the opportunity to use them yet but we are looking forward to using them the first week in March. These will be give the students hands on measuring of how to draw angles and lines. Also, I have seen ACT test problems which required knowledge of using a compass.

I have attached a photo of the protractors and plan to send one with students using these tools soon.

Thank-you so much for the donation.

Social Emotional Books-To the Rescue!

Getting a grant funded is such a wonderful gift!
It means that others have seen the work one is doing and they are choosing to place a high priority on the proposed idea.
By funding the “Social Emotional Books-To the Rescue” project, you have showed us how much you value our students learning through literature, and how much you care about our students future.
Thank you for helping our students engage with the knowledge they need today, to become Life-Ready citizens tomorrow.
